Description
Title supplied by cataloger.; Photographs taken for Historic American Buildings Survey which includes a narrative description and history of the Westinghouse Electric Supply Company warehouse.
Located at 905-915 East Second Street, the Westinghouse Electric Supply Company warehouse played an important role in the industrial history of Los Angeles. Built in 1929-1930, the Art Deco style building, consisting of two attached warehouses, served as an electrical goods storage and shipping warehouse for the Westinghouse Electric Supply Company (WESCO), one of the country's largest electronics companies from the 1930's-1980's. With a freight spur of the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railroad to the east of the building, the warehouse became an important part of the national supply chain, receiving and distributing electrical goods from across the country and throughout Southern California. Photograph dated July 2012.
First floor, interior view of one of the warehouses that makes up the Westinghouse Electric Supply Company warehouse facility. The interior contains contemporary dropped acoustical ceilings, wood roof trusses and fluorescent lighting. A skylight brings in natural lighting and a freight loading entrance can be seen at the far end.
