Photograph of Irene Gavigan, R.N., holding a newborn while another nurse attracts his attention at the Manzanar incarceration camp. They are located in the steps leading to the entrance of the hospital. The collection was donated by Ralph "Pete" Merritt, Jr. and Patricia Merritt. It is comprised of photographs from an album created by L. Josephine Hawes, the Chief Nurse at the Manzanar Hospital, and individual photographs collected by Ralph P. Merritt, the Project Director of the Manzanar War Relocation Center.
