Photograph caption dated January 18, 1963 reads, "Former world record holder John Thomas gets in some practice jumps at USC's Bovard Field Thursday in preparation for Saturday night's Los Angeles Indoor Track Meet at the Sports Arena. Thomas will face a talented field that includes five high steppers who have cleared seven feet."
