House built by Andrew A. Boyle in 1861 on Boyle Heights. It was the first brick house east of the Los Angeles River. Andrew Boyle lived first (1858) in an adobe house nearby as he built the brick house. The pepper trees were planted by him and watered by hand from the ditch under the bluff, as there was no water on the hill in his time.
