Letter from Peter F. Drucker to Morton L. Mandel discussing the evaluation of a management group. Drucker begins by stressing that Mandel has a very strong team, but that Mandel's emphasis on team weakness in judging men is misplaced, stating that expecting people to be good judges of character is quite uncommon and cannot be expected. Drucker recommends that what Mandel needs is a system that enables him to know what people actually do in performance, rather than what opinions in performance actually are, and a system of promotion under which people decisions are taken seriously. Another recommendation from Drucker is that Mandel needs to ask what the key factors are that truly determine success in his business. Drucker states that these two concerns should be what Mandel's proposed Corporate Coordination Committee takes up and discusses, and closes the letter emphasizing the overwhelming conservatism of the PIC personnel, stating that young men under forty should be introduced and given advanced positions.
