Description
Photograph of firefighters using a tall ladder to fight a fire on Hill Street, north of Second Street, 1915. The fire wagon is parked in front of a three story Victorian mansion on a hill, which is propped-up by a stone retaining wall with stairs running up the side. There are three horses hitched to the wagon, around which are gathered five firefighters. Two more firemen are on the ladder, one at the base, and the other at the top. There are other Victorian buildings on the right side of the street, and there is a fancy lamppost at the extreme right of the picture. In the streetcar track-scarred road, there is another wagon parked in front of a white obelisk, and on the left, two men in uniform gaze up at the top of the ladder. Picture file card identifies the photographer as Charles Puck, but a later note mistrusts this assertion due to the early date of the photograph.
