Photograph article dated May 5, 1965 reads, "Jerry Simkins, manager of the Van Nuys J. J. Newberry store, has been elected chairman of the Merchants Committee by the Van Nuys Chamber of Commerce. He will coordinate all special sales events for the retail division of the Chamber of Commerce. Simkins, a graduate of Montana State College, B.S. 1957, came to California as a Newberry management trainee in Ontario. He was assistant manager of the Monterey Park and Norwalk stores and held the post of promotional chairman of the Norwalk Merchants Association. Simkins resides in Encino with his wife and 3 daughters."
