Gangsters Mike Pupillo and Vito Ardito are charged with the murder of 65 year old William J. Cassidy, shown here. Cassidy, a tinsmith, had aided the Los Angeles Police Department as an informer on liquor law violators in Sonoratown. He was an active member of Aimee Semple McPherson's congregation and wanted to stop the rum-runners. Cassidy was "taken for a ride" as revenge for providing information to police. His bullet-riddled body was later found near the intersection of Fair Oaks and Alta Loma Drives in the hills of Altadena.
