Description
Photograph of a painting depicting the grounds of the Mission San Luis Obispo, ca.1865. Vaqueros are pictured in the clearing at center, rounding up a steer while more horsemen stand and watch farther in the foreground to the right. The two-story adobe building of the mission church is visible to the right, with three bells hanging in second floor windows above the three arched doorways on the first floor. A cross is affixed to the top of the roof. The cloister extends out to the left from the church, a long, one-story high adobe with an terracotta-tiled roof. A tree stands in the left foreground in front of a partially visible house from which a porch extends. More activity is pictured in the background, along with the peak of a mountain to the right.
