2012-0869.
View of man, two ladies--one with baby on lap--on high sandstone outcropping above ravine; meadow and hills beyond. Hand-written title on front, "Synders [sic]-Painted Cave." Hand-written on verso, "Taken Mar-1921 at Schneiders." Painted Cave is located east off of San Marcos Road. Area served as a health resort area with rustic cabins, turned community; caves now protected as Chumash Painted Cave SHP. City directory, 1912, lists Snyder, Chas., Clara, Geo. P., and Gus A., as ranchers in Montecito on Romero Canon road.
