Description
Photograph of a view of an intersection of Marchesseault Street and Alameda Street in Los Angeles's Chinatown, showing two Chop Suey restaurants, ca. 1935. The intersection is at center and is paved. Several cars can be seen parked along the sides of the road. Two-story buildings line the streets, and pedestrians can be seen walking near the buildings. Utility wires cross the street overhead. Several of the buildings have awnings over their windows, and two have second-story balconies. Additional information: The railroad crossing sign is indicative of the double-track mainline of the Southern Pacific Company that was in the middle of Alameda Street providing access for the Southern Pacific passenger trains to the SP's Central Station (bounded by 4th Street, 6th Street, Alameda Street and Central Ave). Legible signs include, from left: "40", "Chop Suey", "Railroad Crossing", "4 Beer", "Stop", and "Stop Look out for the cars".
