Close-up view of "The Travel Angel", a statue created by artists Dean and Laura Larson, and which was located in the plaza in front of the Los Angeles Public Library's Central Library. This statue, in the form of a male tourist with angel wings, dons a print shirt with a camera hanging from his neck. His angel wings are adorned with a map of the world. Beginning in June 2002, 200 six-foot tall uniquely decorated angel statues, created by different artists as part of a continuing public art project called A Community of Angels, descended upon the Los Angeles area. The life-sized angel statues delighted Angelinos and visitors from June to September. The life-size angels, hollow and made of fiberglass, were placed in areas of cultural significance in and outside of Los Angeles city. After several months, the angels were auctioned to benefit youth organizations. Photograph dated 2001.
