Description
Historical film and KCRA-TV news footage of the Sacramento Solons, including opening day in c.1920 at Buffalo Field at 10th and Broadway; 1960 Solons' Board of Directors meeting and a game against Folsom Prison inmates; and scenes of Hughes Stadium and Hank Aaron in 1974.

"Story: Solons Baseball; Cassette S12A 18-02-01; Viewed by: Sacramento, Ca.; Camera: 5-77 B-G; Date: Tape file, B=Back row History: The original baseball team in 1914 were known as the "Wolves" 1920's the ball team were known as the "Buffalo's" 1930's The "Senator's" 1940's The "Solons" Mr. Fred David, Owned the Solons franchise until 1958. Mr. David owns and operates the David Candy Co. 10th & R St. Sacramento, Ca. He leased the land and grounds from 1957 to 1964. The last Solons game was June 1964. Cleveland Indians vs San Francisco Giants. Next day the ball park was torn down. Property was sold to Lucky Supermarket chain. Gemco department store eventually built their store on site. Prior to the land sale to Lucky Store chain, the property was rented to Joe Sarkees for Motorcycle races until 1964 to help pay taxes on property. The Solons Baseball franchise was sold to an Hawaii investment co. This from the incredible memory of Harry Sweet Negative film: Silent, 1959-1960; Bill Golsong and ??? walking in building.; W/S meeting in Solons office; C/U Mayor Clarence Azavedo; Board members.; Mayor and Jow Anderson; W/S House and cars; C/uU Bill Golsong, Mayor, Golsong; W/S Edmonds Field and crows.; M/C at Microphone; Supervisor Fred Barberia at plate.; Angels Manager 1974-1975; Baseball footage: Color:, Mag. Sof. Hughs Stadium new site for colons baseball site.; Hank Aaron and team played the colons baseball site.; Hank Arron and team played the Solons. Film shows Hank Arron signing balls, books, made three outs at the plate.
