Shades of L.A. is an archive of photographs representing the contemporary and historic diversity of families in Los Angeles. Images were chosen from family albums and include daily life, social organizations, work, personal and holiday celebrations, and migration and immigration activities. Title supplied by cataloger.; Image is a reproduction. Alice Nicole Voss Capello’s ancestors were from Canada (Basques originally from the Pyrenees), England, and Switzerland. Her parents were from Missouri. They first lived in Laguna Beach, CA, while her father served at Camp Pendleton. After the Marines, her parents lived in married student housing at UCLA. They remained in the area, and Alice was born there in 1954. Portrait of Alice Capello's great grandfather and great-grandmother Tindall with their 12 year-old daughter, Marion (Capello's grandmother) in the backyard of their home in Kansas City, Missouri in 1913.
