Description
Photographic portrait of thirteen visitors at Long Beach modeling their bathing suits, Los Angeles, ca.1910. The beachgoers are grouped in a line, standing foot deep in the surf from the ocean with other beachgoers visible enjoying the deeper water behind them. Three women stand at the left of the line, all in bonnets, two of them bending over to wring out the knee-length skirts of their bathing costumes. Three younger girls in similar dress stand to their right, holding their bonnets in their hands. At center, the eldest man of the group stands with a youthful physique held closely by a dark t-shirt and shorts. A large, middle-aged woman stand next to him, her bonnet looped in the crook of her arm. An adolescent boy stands in front of them in a cap, loose shirt with three-quarters length sleeves and knee-length shorts, placing his hands behind his head and twisting slightly at the waist. Next, three young ladies, perhaps in their mid or late teens, stand in front of a similarly-aged boy, holding the skirts of their bathing costumes out at their sides. A young boy sneaks his own pose into the picture behind them.
