Description
Republican/Nationalist mural, Ardoyne Avenue, Ardoyne, North Belfast, 1996. Depicts scene from 18th century hedge school - informal system of education set up by Catholics against the Penal Code ban on native education. A Maistir (teacher) teaching schoolchildren in rural scene - the schools were often conducted outdoors. 'Labhair an Teanga Gaeilge liom' (Speak Irish with me'); 'The Hedge Row School'. Celtic designs to left and right of mural.
