Description
Shown is a postcard of the Pythian Castle from 1908. The building was located on the northwest corner of Ninth and I streets adjacent to the City Plaza. It acted as a popular social hub in early-day Sacramento that housed a popular dance hall and dance academy, Howe's Academy and Business College, and the meeting center for the Order of the Knights of Pythias, along with several other community events. The Pythian Castle was erected in 1889 and was demolished to make way for a post office/federal building in 1931.
