“Painted texts for hanging on walls of huts, being issued to teachers & others.” Group portrait of mission workers holding up illuminated copies of biblical text, ‘I will show thee my faith by my works’. The illustrations were done by the children of a Glasgow Sunday School at the request of Dr Irvine so that he could supply the local Christians with colourful illustrations to hang on their walls. ❧ The image is from the collection of Dr Archibald Clive Irvine (1893-1974) showing the period from 1928-1947 at the Chogoria mission which was established near Mt Kenya, in 1922, and run by Dr Irvine.
