Manuscript map in ink and pencil showing the explosion vessel Susannah at Fort Rouge, in Calais harbor, France, in the center. In the upper left-hand corner of the map "town" is drawn, adjacent to a citadel and Fort Risban. Fort Lapin is drawn in the upper right-hand corner of the map. The ship Susannah is labeled "Fire Vessel", and is shown across from Fort Rouge, with two boats with carcasses (submarine torpedoes) not far behind. On December 8, 1804, the British Navy attempted to destroy the French Fort Rouge with the explosion vessel Susannah (under the command of Lieutenant Hew Steuart) and two torpedoes. The Susannah, two boats trailing the torpedoes and a fourth ship are drawn in pencil. The compass rose is drawn near the center of the bottom of the map; North facing the bottom edge of the sheet. "Bank des Tetes" is written across the compass rose. This map is accompanied by a drawing of Fort Rouge with the Susannah at one end. In this drawing the Susannah flies the British flag; Fort Rouge flies the French flag. Title supplied by cataloger.
