Description
Photograph of the exterior stairway leading to the choir loft of the adobe church at San Gabriel Mission, 1900. The fired(?) brick or stone steps are deeply grooved with wear. The support walls are made of adobe with much of its stucco worn off. Metal handrails surround the stair landing at top. Two large buttresses provide support for the church wall. To the right, two men converse near a large tree. Just behind the mission there is a railroad track and a "Railroad crossing" sign. A barbed wire fence separates the railroad tracks from the mission.
