Description
Photograph of a view of the Santa Anita Race Track paddock, showing spectators, possibly ca.1934-1939. The paddock, enclosed by a crossbuck fence, fills the foreground. Jockeys, horses, and men and women in plain clothes stand on the grass inside the paddock, while rows of spectators stand outside the fence in the extreme foreground and throughout the centerground. The horses and the jockeys wear numbers visible numbers include "9", "8", "5", and "4". A four-story building, constructed in an Art Deco-like style, fills the background. An awning extends from the lower level, while the second- and third-story windows are decorated by images of running horses. Several people stand on top of the central section of the building, to the right of an American flag.
