Photograph article dated May 10, 1963 reads, "A new machine, one of the first of its kind in the Valley, is in operation at Pacoima Memorial Lutheran Hospital. In service for a month, the machine is helping doctors diagnose lung impairments by registering such measurements as lung volume and maximum breathing capacity. The patient, portrayed in the photo by Ginny Durant, breathes into the machine. Roger Marquis, chief laboratory technician, watches her breathing behavior on the graph. The new diagnostic device will be on display at the hospital during Hospital Week which begins Saturday. Valley hospitals are planning open houses and special events for the public."
