Description
The Bisceglia Brothers frequently used names from their native Italy for brand names. The Arno is a river in Tuscany, a region of Italy. The Arno runs through Florence, Empoli, and Pisa. If you look closely you can see the Leaning Tower of Pisa in the illustration on the left side of the label. Four Bisceglia brothers emigrated from southern Italy to the United States in 1885. The eventually settled in Morgan Hill where they started growing and canning fruit and vegetables. In 1913 the Bisceglia Brothers moved their cannery to Monterey Road in San Jose, California. In 1919 the Bisceglia Brothers Canning Company was the largest cannery in the world and employed 1,000 workers.
