Burbank Redevelopment Agency Real Estate Officer Don Warner and an unidentified man at the groundbreaking for the Ramada Inn, reported by the Los Angeles Times to be part of a then $22-million hotel and office complex to be constructed at the southeast corner of Hollywood Way and Thornton Avenue, near the airport. The project had been delayed for three years by a Burbank resident's lawsuit charging that the city had improperly sold the land for half its value. On January 10, 1982, the Times reported that the hotel -- still under construction at the time -- would open in August of that year as a Hilton franchise instead. In 2006, the hotel brand and name were again changed, this time to Los Angeles Marriott Burbank Airport. Notes on back of photo: “1980 Ramada Inn Groundbreaking. Don Warner, City Redevelop Div.”
