Second edition of a work that was originally published in 1862, Tovey attempts to describe the wines of Europe, devoting one chapter to the wines of Australia. He also discusses the reduction of wine duties in another chapter and wine selection in the last two chapters of the book. Tovey uses extensive quotes from earlier wine writers including Barry, Henderson, Busby and Redding.; This book, aside from describing the various wines, draws attention to some f the frauds perpetrated in the wine trade...The book discusses wine consumption in England, the wines of Europe, America and the Briitish colonies, and the chemistry and medicinal value of wine.
