Description
Exterior view of the Venice Beach Cotel, at 25 Windward Circle, showing arches in the entrance area, diamond-shaped tile patterns on front, upper portion of the building, and American as well as international flags waving in the breeze from the rooftop of the hostel. The Cotel has been a hostel for young travelers, many from Australia and Europe, since 1984. Its 35 private and shared rooms vary in price from $50-$80. Previously known as the St. Charles Hotel, the building is 100 years old. The Venice Cantina Restaurant opened in January of 2005 and is located downstairs from the Cotel; the neon sign from the old St. Marks club came down in 2005. Photograph dated July 29, 2003.
