Description
Shown is the premiere issue of the Sacramento Comic Press News published in April 1991 (Volume 1, Issue 1). Comic Press News was launched by owner and editor James Israel. This publication started soon after the first United States-Iraq War, when President George H.W. Bush was in office. The issue included an eight page “review” of the war and provided “coverage by cartoon” of the Rodney King beating by police in Los Angeles.
The Comic Press News was an editorial in nature and published political cartoons lampooning real-life politics. Israel hired talented political cartoonists from around the country and even offered space for amateur cartoonists to contribute. It was distributed free throughout the Sacramento, California area from 1991 to 2008.
