Description
Image of a whaling vessel lifting the upper jaw with baleen of a right whale, and removing blubber; the same vessel is depicted at left sailing home.
Date supplied by cataloger based on artist history; Benjamin Russell created the image after visiting the Pacific northwest coast of the United States on a whaling vessel in 1843. "Designed by B. Russell New Bedford"--text, bottom left margin. "Lith by A. Mayer."--text, bottom right margin. "Printed by Lemercier, Paris"--text, bottom center margin. "Executed undre [sic] the care of C. Combier, Director of the American Agency, Rue Notre-Dame des Victoires, 40 Paris"--text, bottom center margin.
