Black and white photo of the Big Bend School. The building is made of logs. Inscribed on the backside of the photograph: Big Bend School ca. 1917 or 1918. Building built by early day families of Big Bend, Butte County, California. Teacher, standing in doorway, was Miss Sophie Gerson. She boarded with the Moak and Pinston families. It is said, a local boy by the name of Johnson, did not enjoy school, burned it down. Inscribed on the backside of the catalog card: Dan Johnson a Indian boy burned the school because he did not like to go to school.
