Portrait of Meredith Pinxton Snyder, Mayor of Los Angeles from 1896-1898, 1900-1904, and 1919-1921. Snyder was active in the movement to provide Los Angeles with a harbor at San Pedro and acquiring the shoestring strip that connected the two. During his time as mayor, the 3rd Street tunnel was bored in 1901 and there were 10,000 telephones in the city in 1901.
