Without her parents' consent, 16-year-old Brenda Lenore Emerson had eloped with her 20-year-old husband, Steve Emerson, nine months before her body was discovered. The couple lived at 9645 1/2 W. Olympic Blvd. in Beverly Hills. Initially ruled a mystery, Emerson's death was caused by 3.4 grams of sodium pentothal, administered prior to an abortion that she was to have had. Photograph caption dated March 24, 1959 reads, "Leaving Forest Lawn, Hollywood Hills, chapel following funeral services yesterday for Mrs. Brenda Lenore Emerson, teenage bride whose body was found near St. Joseph Hospital Saturday night, were girl's mother, Mrs. William Blonder, center, supported by her sister, Mrs. Sheldon Grossbart, left; girl's father, back left, and her younger brother, Leonard, back right. Mrs. Emerson's husband, Steve, stands in doorway of chapel. Family on verge of collapse at services."
