Description
Four negatives in envelope labeled, "Wiley and Dresel July 11-34. Commander of Macon and Commander of Station." Images from the transfer of command of Macon to Wiley. Glenn Bugos of the NASA Ames History office notes that Herbert V. Wiley (on the right in the photos) took command of the Macon in June 1934, and was Commander until it crashed. He is one of three survivors of the crash of the Akron, serving as executive officer when it crashed in April 4, 1933. See news articles attached, pulled from History San Jose's collection.
