The alcove of the First Congregational Church, at Third Street and Cedar Avenue in Long Beach, covers the pulpit and choir boxes which are paneled in wood. A large, ornate, organ from Johnson Organ Co. in Van Nuys sits in an arch on the back wall of the alcove. The arch and alcove are both lined with decorative tile. The church was built in 1914 by C. T. McGrew and the architectural design was by H. M. Patterson. The building is a Long Beach Historic Landmark.
