Description
The brand "Uvas" was probably named after the Uvas River in Morgan Hill, where the Bisceglia Brothers started their canning company. "Uva" is the word for grape in Spanish, Latin, Portuguese, and Italian. Notice the illustration of grapes included in the design for a can of apricots. Four Bisceglia brothers emigrated from southern Italy to the United States in 1885. The eventually settled in Morgan Hill where they started growing and canning fruit and vegetables. In 1913 the Bisceglia Brothers moved their cannery to Monterey Road in San Jose, California. In 1919 the Bisceglia Brothers Canning Company was the largest cannery in the world and employed 1,000 workers.
