Description
Two women wearing French fashions from 1831. The woman on the right wears a green dress with voluminous leg-of-mutton sleeves. Green gathered fabric epaulets, with border detailing which matches the skirt, cover the top of the sleeves. The design is repeated about a third of the way up the dress from the hem. Her collar is high and edged at the top in white lace. She wears a brown fur boa around her neck and holds a brown fur muff over her right hand. Her cuffs are narrow and also brown. She wears black lace-up flats and a pink bonnet that has a group of pink feathers on the side, and a pink ribbon tied under her chin. She looks to the left. The woman on the left sits in a wooden chair with a yellow upholstered seat with her back to the viewer. She wears a purple dress in the same style as the green dress and with the same detailing, but no trim. She wears a white bonnet with a group of white feathers and a white bow. Her left arm is propped on the back of the chair and she looks to the left.
