Description
V1p191b In PHOTO ALBUM-VAULT: ** fc917.9461 A3, Vol. I, page 191 bottom. This photograph is contained in one of two volumes by Dobbin titled "Album of San Francisco." Text written under photo: "Block bounded by Larkin, Polk, Hayes & Grove Streets. This was the site of the Mechanics Pavilion prior to the fire of 1906. The large building on the right is a brick building and was transferred bodily to its present location." View is of the empty lot where the Exposition Auditorium was later built. A large brick structure is seen a block away on Grove Street, on the sight of the present Civic Center Plaza. A Fredericksburg Beer sign is visible at the extreme left near a plume of smoke. Car tracks and wires are in the foreground on Hayes.
