This is a photograph of a Chinese mother and daughter repairing Burma Road. "They are breaking rock by hand so that the men may stamp it with their bare feet into place on a section of the Burma Road which only an hour before was blown out by a Japanese aerial bomb. These bomb craters and washouts are repaired in a matter of hours by Chinese peasants, who do all their work with tools no more complicated than hammers, shovels and crowbars."
