Used in the Exhibit: Play by Play - A Century of L.A. Sports Photography, 1889-1989 One of the greatest duals in decathlon history involved two teammates--UCLA's Rafer Johnson and C.K. Yang--at the 1960 Rome Olympics. After the first day, Johnson held a slim 55-point advantage. On day two, Yang (representing Taiwan) passed Johnson. The competition would be decided in the final event--the 1,500 meter run--and Johnson finished within seconds of Yang to take the gold medal with a then-Olympic best of 8,392 points.
