Description
In the nineteenth century, before income tax became standard, taxes in San Francisco and elsewhere were levied on personal property, which led to some creative definitions as to what constituted personal property. If taxpayers owed, this property could be sold by the creditor to satisfy the amount.
Supplements to San Francisco newspapers containing delinquent tax lists and announcing sales of property to recoup unpaid taxes.
