Description
This mural was created as a gift to San Jose State University by students in the Art Department for the Bi-Centennial Year, 1976. The Project was supervised by Bob Friemark, Professor of Art and Alan W. Barnett, Professor of Humanities. University supervisors claimed the mural could not be shown with the graffiti. However, Professor Bob Freimark insisted, "This collateral damage was significant to the history of the mural and its battle for righteous attention, regardless of the disgrace to the university." After two years of dedicated work on the gift of the bicentennial mural by the students of 1976, and numerous refusals of acceptance by the many committees created by the university, five students completed the project: Jeannie Storia, Jan King, Graham Marshall, Jerry Astorga, and Chris Freimark.
