Description
Photograph of Barney Williams Store and Hall located on the North East corner of Colorado and Fair Oaks. It was built by Lawson T. Hollingsworth in 1882. Later, Romayne (Barney) Williams purchased the property and named it Barney Williams Store and Hall. The store occupied the ground floor, and contained the first Post Office and had the first telephone connecting Pasadena and Los Angeles, as well as a hall. Later, the Parlor Theatre occupied the top floor. Front: People are standing, posed on the porch in front of the store. There is a horse and carriage with a person parked in the center, front of the photo. There are people standing next to a horse in the right frame of the photo. Stamp affixed to the upper-left corner of the photo states the following: "BARNEY WILLIAMS / GENERAL STORE / Corner of Colorado and / Fair Oaks 1880." Additional details on the stamp: the letters "N/E" are hand-written, indicating the northeast corner of Colorado and Fair Oaks; also, the number "3" is hand-written over the printed "0," indicating the date is "1883." Back: "Grace W. Hodge, 1266 N. Raymond Ave." Later note: "Clem Inskeep has a copy neg of this #57 5/1/61."
