Photograph of the interior ruins at the main altar entrance in the Mission San Carlos de Carmel, photographed by Edward Vischer, Monterey, ca.1900. Notched wooden roof beams have fallen down in front of a stone archway, beyond which more roof beams can be seen, some leaning down, still partially attached to the walls. A second archway is visible at the far end.
