Photograph caption dated June 18, 1958 reads "High above Majove (sic) Desert with F-100F Super Sabre fighter-bomber diving earthward in parabolic curve Walt Keeshen Jr., Valley Times aviation editor, experiences zero gravity. Pencil released in cockpit suddenly began to float like bubble. Note chin strip which also floats. This is self portrait taken with Nikon camera equipped with 35mm wide-angle lens. Seconds after shutter was snapped, pencil floated by his left ear. Safety belt in shoulder harness kept him from free-floating. Pilot held zero gravity for 10 seconds and then went through it again upside down to keep pencil floating in one spot. Weightlessness over long period will be serious problem of space travel."
