Inside view of Presentation of Mary Catholic Church located at 6406 Parmalee Ave. Photo shows a large stained glass window depicting the entry of the Virgin Mary into the Temple in Jerusalem as a small child, which is referred to as the "Presentation of Mary". Early Christian writings say that Mary was taken to the Temple at around the age of 3 in fulfillment of a vow made by her parents, Sts Joachim and Anna. Praying for an end to their childlessness, they vowed that if a child were born to them, they would dedicate it to the service of God. It was the tradition of the time that Mary be left at the Temple to be educated in preparation for her role as Mother of God. The Roman Catholic Church commemorates this optional memorial event on November 21st. Photo dated: December 2005.
