Redwood tree #1586. View across redwood highway from in road to Elinor. Tree about to be cut for highway safety. Measured 10 1/2 ft. in diameter inside the bark and 336' high. Top has died back, but the full top contained no decay. Some stringy rot along rift crack at butt. Note fallers' scaffolding at butt. Diameters: at stump 8' - 126" 28' - 96" 48' - 90" 68' - 84" 100' - 76" 140' - 68" 156' - 64" 196' - 56" 236' - 50" 296' - 36" 336' - Tip Merchantable length 236 feet. Last 40 ft. very rough. First break at 140' (fell on flat ground). Bark 5"-6" thick at stump line, partly burned off many years before. Bark ridges on second log 10"-12" thick. Cut 4/14/38. See also #6468-9. Photo 4/14/38.
