Description
"Grand View Hotel," later renamed the LaVista Grande was at the corner of Ivy & Lemon. It was built for Colonel Samuel Keefer, whose son John S. added the Keefer subdivision to Monrovia. The Hotel burned down in a spectacular Fire in 1916 that prompted Monrovia's first adequate piece of Fire equipment, the Seagrave. The Hotel was lighted by gas produced by its own gas plant. Photo by Shaffner's California Views 500 & 509 Sixth St., Los Angeles. Photo is dated March 4, 1887. The clubhouse was later moved to 147 W Lemon and demolished in c. 1968.
