Description
Photograph of an exterior view of the Hughes Hotel in Fresno, ca.1890. A gigantic, Victorian-style block building can be seen occupying the entire section between two cross streets, its tallest peak visible at the corner right of center. Below, commercial interests advertise via sign, including a drug store and grain dealer. Legible signs from left to right read: "F.M. Miller, Grain dealer", "Smith's Dandruff Pomade cures dandruff, eczema and itching scalp. Price 50 cents", "Smith Bros' Catarrn Cure. Ear, Throat, Stomach, Bowels and Bladder", "Chemists. Druggists", "Take Smith Bros. Ague Cure. Chills and Fever Guaranteed", "Use Universal Salve. Boyles, burns, cuts and wounds", "King Pain cures all aches and pains. Try it", and "Bath".
