John H. Francis Polytechnic High School opened in 1905, a satellite of Los Angeles High School. It is the second oldest high school in the city. Originally located in Downtown Los Angeles, in February 1957 Polytechnic moved to its present site at 12430 Roscoe Boulevard, in Sun Valley. Former Los Angeles Mayor Tom Bradley was an alumnus. Photograph caption dated May 20, 1957 reads "Emilio Leon and Robert H. Lewis, from left, Polytechnic High School faculty coordinator and principal, respectively, snitch a snack in cafeteria while planning tomorrow's Fun Fair and Dime-A-Dip dinner. They were caught by Mrs. Emery Yuhasz, right, as she completed arrangements with Mrs. Richard Sparks, PTA hospitality chairman."
