Photograph was edited for publication purposes Photograph article dated July 13, 1961 partially reads, "'My Mother has asked you this before. Would you 'PLEASE' put up a stop sign on Elmer avenue and Erwin street. More than 13 accidents have happened in the past.' This plea from an 8-year-old North Hollywood girl, echoed by residents around the intersection, today 'set the wheels rolling' for an investigation that may result in the hoped-for stop sign." Pictured is Mrs. Ann Maupin as she holds back daughters, Lydia, 8, and Margaret, 2, at the corner of Elmer Avenue and Erwin Street. Lydia wrote a plea to the Los Angeles Department of Traffic for a stop sign at the North Hollywood location.
