Description
Photograph caption dated October 22, 1963 reads, "Sad night for Valley - Steve Oakley of Valley College, 24, moves up to stop Long Beach City College end Chuck Merino as he moves for a first down after catching a pass Saturday night. Long Beach, led by fullback Homer Williams, downed the Monarchs, 28-6. Valley now has to face the other Metropolitan Conference powerhouse, Bakersfield, Saturday night at Valley. Monarch coach George Ker has hopes that his outstanding freshman halfback, Phil Culotta, will be able to play. Culotta missed the Long Beach game because of a twisted knee."
